Our club is full of young riders with excellent qualities – dedicated, committed, fun, determined, helpful, happy, hard working, smiling, energetic, enthusiastic, encouraging – they're great role models, and they can ride bikes too! Once a year our club's coaches and volunteers nominate young riders for the Hugh Webb Merit Award - a prize donated to us by our friends at Bigfoot CC (the adult club) to be awarded each year to one young rider in our club in recognition of their outstanding achievement or contribution. We are proud of all our young riders and we are sure you are too. Below is a list of those who are highly commended. But the club's committee had to pick the one award winner. We shortlisted to three riders for this award. They all epitomise the club's qualities, and they are all special: Eleanor Thompson (age 8) - a keen cyclist, a regular at coaching sessions, the winner of this year’s South London Go-Ride Racing League for her age category, she has also taken part in loads of Regional cycle races, and she rode Hayes to Brighton this year (including cycling all the way up Devil’s Dyke non-stop!) Isaac Rehman (age 9) - also a keen cyclist and a regular at coaching sessions, plus helping out at these sessions. He came second in this year’s South London Go-Ride Racing League for his age category, he has taken part in more Regional cycle races than anyone else in the club, and also is now acquitting himself excellently well at our Monday night training sessions with the big kids. Roisin Smith (age 15) – another brilliant cyclist, Roisin has been with the club about 8 years, and is a regular club member taking part in loads of events and rides over the years (including rides to Brighton on and off road, BMX, track bikes, our ride to Dunwich and riding in France); she is the winner of the South London Go-Ride Racing League for her age category. And more, she now has been a brilliant volunteer with our young riders at coaching sessions and earlier this year was part of the team that arranged our very first awards night! There can only be one winner, and the winner is ROISIN SMITH! CONGRATULATIONS and well deserved! ![]() She was presented with her award at the recent Bigfoot CC Christmas social, and our friends at Panagua Bikes are also providing special discounts for a year to the three shortlisted riders. Those highly commended (in no particular order): Frans-Louis van Schalkwyk Zoe Howard James Harwood William Mitchell Ben Frost Lucy Stevenson Rachel Young Rob Mills Ian Hudson Matthew Brogan Isabelle Stoneham Henry Davies Joseph Spearman-Oxx Dale Nelson Greta Wilkinson Grace Turner Albie Peate Aaron Harris James Cook |
