Bigfoot Youth: change of day and venue

Bromley College has become increasingly busy on a Tuesday evening, and it has become difficult to run effective club sessions and deliver high quality coaching to our members. We cannot use the grass areas during the winter, and the car park has become rather heavily used in the last 12 months. This has resulted in less space to ride and constant interruptions as cars enter and leave.

Not only do we face challenges with our venue, but our Tuesday evening club sessions also clash with local racing events (such the Crystal Palace crits) and regional training sessions at Herne Hill and Cyclopark, which all take place on Tuesday evenings. This has resulted in the unfortunate situation where the club has been encouraging its racing-focused riders to attend other events instead of taking part in club sessions.

We recently held a trial coaching session at Croydon Arena, and the feedback we received was almost entirely positive. It offers a traffic-free, closed circuit, with a reliable all-weather surface and good lighting. There is ample parking for drop-off and pick-up.

The Bigfoot Go-Ride committee has therefore decided that from Monday 6 March our Bigfoot Youth coaching sessions will now be held at Croydon Arena on Monday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

These sessions will continue to focus on fitness, technique, speed and group riding, with an emphasis on training for racing.

We are keen to run a second weekly session on a Thursday evening. This would be at an alternative venue, and we hope to finalise arrangements over the course of the next few months. The Thursday sessions may focus more on off-road riding, but this will depend to a large extent on the location.

We believe that this is an exciting opportunity to provide the enhanced level of coaching that our riders deserve, in a much more suitable venue. We appreciate that the location or day of the week may be less convenient for some members, and we sincerely apologise if this is the case. Obviously if the changes mean that you are no longer able to attend then we will happily refund any session fees paid for the period after the move to Croydon Arena.

We will continue to hold our final planned session at Bromley College on Tuesday 28 February and then look forward to seeing you at Croydon Arena from Monday 6 March.
